今回は、スノーマン先生の自己紹介にコメントします。

Dear Mr. Snowman,

I've listened to and read your self-introduction on your web site. 

I've just known your real name is "Norman Delaney." (Is this "Delaney" all right?) I believed that the family name "Snowman" really existed. Well, I'm just kidding! ;-)

You say that, on your web site, your first visit of Japan was Iwo Jima, where you got interested in and started to study Japanese.

It seems that you returned to USA and graduated the university.  And then, you came to live in Asahikawa 16 years ago.

I assume you must have lived in the other places in Japan or other countries. Why did you choose NOVA? Woops, forget it!  Why did you choose "Asahikawa, Hokkaido"? 

Because of snow?  It snows in winter in USA where you lived, doesn't it? Is the snow falling down in Hokkaido such greatly special one?

To tell the truth, I've NEVER visited Hokkaido. However, I heard from my friends once living in Hokkaido that it was a great palce to live in. 

I'd like to visit Hokkaido in the near future to enjoy the fairy-tale landscape, and to meet you Mr. Snowman, if possible.

But ... I imagine it seems to be so cold in Hokkaido in winter. It must be an almost unimaginable level for me! 　(Brrr...)

旭川は、今日は雪がたくさん降りました。毎年この時期はひどく冷えるので暖かい冬がいいなぁ～と言い続けてきたのですが、今年のように（寒いながらも）いつもとは違う暖かい日が続くと生態系が崩れてきてしまうので、いつもの北海道らしい寒い凍える冬でいいよ～と思うこの頃です。

今頃気がついたのですが、Ｈｉｒｏｓｕｋｅさんは「英会話」と「米会話」を区別していらっしゃるのですね。
日本で英語を学ぼうとすると「英会話」という単語になりますが、アメリカ人の先生の事のほうが多いですよね。
曖昧でよしとする風潮なのでしょうか？
それとも「英語＝イギリス語」なのだから「英会話」で妥当。
「米会話」は特にアメリカンな雰囲気を出す時のみ！なのでしょうか？習慣的に。

夏月さん、朝早くまで（？）お仕事ご苦労様です。頑張ってる夏月さんと、「お気に入りの一曲」にnice!を贈りましたよ。
当地でも暖かい日が続き、知り合いの花卉農家の方が「土の中の害虫や雑菌が死なない。」と嘆いていました。やはり異常ですよ、この気候は。
さてさて、スノーマン先生のお返事、お待ち申し上げております。

ゆうこりんさん、僕が区別してるんじゃなくて、スノーマン先生が自分の教室を「米会話教室」って言ってるんです。

アメリカ人としての誇りなのかもしれません。イギリス英語は British とワンワードで言えるのに対し、アメリカ英語はどうしても American English と言わざるを得ない。もしかしたら、それを嫌ってのことなのかも。

そう考えると、確かに English と言うこの言葉、「英語」と言うのはもうやめた方がいいような気がします。「英国の言葉」を縮めたものなんでしょうが、明治時代の遺物の様な感があります。

英米豪印露日中韓独仏蘭・・・それぞれの「英」語があるわけで。いわゆるネイティブでも意見が分かれている現状で、どれが正しくどれが間違いだなんて、誰も断言できないほど世界にはいろんな「英」語が存在しています。

スノーマン先生は、「オレが教えるのは、あくまでもアメリカ語だ！」という主張を込めているのかもしれません。今度、ご本人に聞いてみますね。

An American friend of mine says "I can understand American but not English." She means there are differences in many ways between American English and Britsh English.

But I think this is just like Japanese. (Maybe it can be said the same thing with other languages but I don't know about them well, so I just mention Japanese here.) Japanese has so many regional accents, and some of them are totally different from the standerd accent. It could say the differnce is bigger than one of English.
